Overwhelmed and don’t know what to do next? Do this 60‑second reset

If you’re reading this with 14 unfinished thoughts and zero ability to choose a starting point: same.

This isn’t a motivational speech. It’s a tiny loop.

Not a new system. Not a perfect morning routine. Just one “Up Next”.

The problem (in plain English)

When you’re overwhelmed, your brain starts treating everything as urgent. So picking one thing feels impossible. Then you freeze. Then you scroll. Then you feel worse.

You don’t need a bigger plan. You need a smaller next step.

The 60‑second reset

Set a timer for 60 seconds if you want — but you can also just do the steps.

Step 1: Sip (10 seconds)

Drink a sip of water. Not as a wellness flex. As a physical “we’re here” anchor.

Step 2: Breathe (60 seconds)

Do one minute of slow breathing. If you want a simple pattern:

  • In for 4
  • Out for 6

If counting makes you annoyed, skip the math and just slow down.

Step 3: Pick ONE tiny task (20 seconds)

Pick the smallest task that would make you feel slightly more in control.

Not the most important thing in your life. Not the task that fixes everything.

Just one.

Examples:

  • Put a mug in the dishwasher
  • Reply to one message (not all)
  • Open the doc (not finish the doc)
  • Put laundry in the basket (not “do laundry”)

Step 4: Do the first 2 minutes

You don’t have to finish. You just have to start.

Starting is the win.
